Overview

NEO is 1X Technologies' consumer humanoid for the home, announced October 28, 2025, following the NEO Beta (August 2024) and NEO Gamma (February 2025) development platforms. At approximately 30 kg it is deliberately light for household safety, built around a proprietary compliant Tendon Drive actuation system, and runs the Redwood vision-language-action model on NVIDIA Jetson Thor compute. It is among the first humanoids sold for private home use, on preorder at $20,000 outright or $499 per month, with shipping expected in Q3 to Q4 2026 in the United States and Canada first. 1X is backed by the OpenAI Startup Fund and NVIDIA.

Strengths

  • Among the first humanoids sold for private home use, with a real published price.
  • Approximately 30 kg, deliberately light for safety around people.
  • Compliant Tendon Drive actuation, approximately 95% backdrivable.
  • Approximately 75 body degrees of freedom with 22-DoF hands.
  • Quiet operation at approximately 22 dB, with self-docking charging.
  • Subscription option lowers the entry cost to $499 per month.

Considerations

  • Early units rely partly on Expert Mode remote teleoperation for tasks NEO has not yet learned. When assisting, a remote 1X operator can view live camera feeds inside the owner's home, a documented privacy consideration owners should understand.[2]
  • A first-generation consumer product; shipping is expected but has not begun.[2]
  • Battery runtime is approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on activity.[3]
  • Not yet a full substitute for human versatility: open flames, sharp tools, and complex coordination remain outside its safe operating range.[3]
